Frequently Asked Questions for an ENT

There can be many reasons to visit an ear, nose, and throat doctor (ENT) - it doesn’t need to be from a referral. There are a lot of common questions the first time someone visits one. Dr. Ravi P. Agarwal and Dr. Daniel Bos of Westside Ear, Nose and Throat, of Glendale, AZ, have put together a list of frequently asked questions to help you know if you may benefit from a visit to the ENT.

Frequently Asked Questions for an ENT

What Does an ENT Do?

An ENT, a/k/a an otolaryngologist, is responsible for specializing in the parts of the body specific to the ear, nose, and throat. Common reasons people see an ENT include sinusitis, tonsil issues, and allergies.

What Does an ENT Treat?

The most common issues that lead people to seek an ENT include snoring, sore/strep throat, tonsilitis, sinusitis, allergies, and GERD.

What Questions Should I Ask my ENT?

You will want your ENT to be able to tell you:

  • Can you help with this?
  • What is the long-term plan for care?
  • How will this affect other parts of my health?

How Do I Prepare for an ENT Appointment?

A visit to the ENT should be treated just as any other doctor appointment. Be prepared to describe your condition, answer questions about medications and food and beverage intake, and discuss general lifestyle habits. With an ENT, prepare to also discuss potential allergies and exposures to common sources.

What Happens at an ENT Appointment?

In addition to the interview, the ENT will perform a physical examination of your ears, nose, and throat. They will likely push on your cheekbones and rotate your head to get a thorough feel of your system. X-rays may also be taken if necessary.

If you are dealing with issues of the ear, nose, or throat, it may be time to visit an ENT. If you have any of the above questions or more of your own, contact Westside Ear, Nose and Throat, of Glendale, AZ, to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ravi Agarwal or Dr. Daniel Bos and get those questions answered.
